Apocalypse Weekend... Where do I start?
This album was based on my best friend in the entire world. We met in October of 2024, that's when I started writing this album.
I was in a weird place at that time, I had just taken a hiatus from music because I wasn't enjoying it anymore and well, things kinda careened from there in September. I won't talk about that on the internet.
Directly inspired, especially in name, by the Postal 2 expansion (that I hadn't even beaten yet by the time I started working on it lol. That shit is difficult) where the dude hallucinates from brain trauma and crack pipes.
It was also inspired by my favorite book, House of Leaves, which I had just finished reading in September, in which the main character, Johnny Truant, also does drugs and has psychosis.
Again, it was also inspired by the game Omori, which my best friend also loves, in which a mentally ill person has psychosis and sees eyes and such (who let this kid have a steak knife bro) It also inspired the music with its ominous OST.
And lastly, random internet stories of ego death, a reddit simulation of salvia, Car Seat Headrest (musically I like the WEE WOO WEE WOO on the guitar) and some sirens that I heard when I was in my therapy office.
For the record, when I uploaded this, it became the LONGEST TIME I had EVER spent on a single album. Spanning from October to May (the rest was spent on making the videos).
Btw, the album art was the first time I ever used a tool besides Paint 3D to make the art (I used photoshop lol). The art is a collage of a drawing I made in Paint 3D, an image I databent using audacity (thanks shittykickflips for mentioning that being a thing on a livestream onetime), a blurry image of a road that i drew a "chalk" outline on, an image of trees, a white corner with the words apocalypse written on them (House of Leaves inspiration ofc), blend modes, and lastly, the cherries on top, the blood splattery logo with the album name and the green counterpart with my name on it.
Amazing art if you ask me gurl.
So for the record, Saturday Night ReDeath (orignally gonna be called Saturday Night LIVE before realizing that could cause a trademark lawsuit :)) took like, nearly all of October to make. It was probably my most calculated song ever made. Very Kanye West inspired (I had just listened to Yeezus). I took my time so as to 1) make a good song, much attention to detail, and 2) not burn myself out.
Then Sunday Morning came along and took until MARCH 26TH. And keep in mind, Aftermath was originally gonna be a part of Sunday until I decided "Nah why don't I make it sort of a 'post game cutscene' " I remember finishing the first part rather quickly in like maybe a week into November if it even got to November, Then I finished the second in December because I know I had to start part three then. Part three took the longest (probably because it IS the longest).
By the way, this song was my first time 1) recording lyrics for an original song [excluding demos], and 2) using autotune. I also used quite a lot of other effects I think. Either for the first time (maybe with the way I used the reverb) and borrowed from older stuff (like the distortion from Nevermind She Was a Snake or the BitInvader synth from 6 Foot Four BILLION). I also combined a lot of real world sounds into the mix, either as transitions (like the trains) or as part of the music (the sirens and the helicopter). It also has lyrics inspired by irl experiences ("Are you hiding from the lord, my dear?") As well as a few riffs I wrote during my haitus (17:04 because I just got back into The Fall of Troy, and right after "GET OUT OF MY HEAAAAAAAAAAAAAD" which was written right after the event that lead me to meet my bestest friend in the whole wide world (whcih is an optimistic way of putting it lol). This song was such a relief to finish and damn it sounds good. For the record, I was planning to release this EP in OCTOBER LOLOLOL.
Thanks to my other friend for recording the news part for me. That was very Gezebelle Gaburgably inspired (Christ Church Bible Study Club lmao). At first I was gonna have like 3 different people and switch between them like the Gez song but it was hard enough finding one so I just had him be all of it.
This was the first song to use no fake elements besides the drums. Made entirely in Reaper instead of just lmms like Saturday or both like Sunday. For the record I had no clue (and still don't know) how to play guitar, and, more importantly, I also had no clue how to use a daw to record music from an instrument really, when I wrote this which is why it shifts out of time in like every part which is why the drums are like that lol.
This song was originally going to have more lyrics but I decided nah, it needs to be a simplistic radiohead like song. Oh yeah, Kid A was also an influence on this album.
WOOO. I finally talked about this album, which I think may have unironically taken longer than making the album lol (it did, I'm writing this in February bruh).
So yeah, bestie, if you're reading this, I love youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.
